Do you shoot digital or film?
I shoot both. I am fully equiped to shoot film or digital. My workflow is designed so I am able to use whatever medium my clients prefer.
What equipment do you use?
I use Canon 35mm digital and film equipment. I have lenses from a 20mm f2.8 to a 300mm f2.8 and many in between. I also use Leica M-series rangefinder cameras and a Toyo 4x5 camera.
Do you travel?
Yes, I can travel anywhere. I begin charging travel expenses when a location is more than 100 miles from my studio.
Do you have online proofing?
I do have that as an option. I would rather meet with my clients at the studio and show them images and discuss them. I feel like I can help with a lot of decisions that might be missed with online proofing.
Do you shoot Black and White or color images?
With digital you can have both. But you also have drawbacks. A monochromatic digital image will never have the contrast and feel of a black and white print made from film. If I am shooting film, I prefer to shoot whatever matches the situation. I will discuss with the client as to what they would like and then use my best judgment. For instance, in many churches, with low light and different light sources, black and white film is a far better choice.
How long should I plan on for portraits?
That will depend on how many people are going to be in them and the location. I like to have at least one half hour just for the bride and groom. That does not even include the family and wedding party. I like to meet with clients in the months up to the wedding and make a list as to who needs to be in them and so on. A month before the wedding we will go over that list and make sure no one is left out or forgotten. Then I will have a good idea as to how long they will take.
How long will it be until my images can be viewed?
I try to turn around proofs in 7 business days. Then from then it is 4-6 weeks for the print order. I will give the bride and groom a slide show of images so they can show the images to others during that time.
Can I just get a CD with the images after the shoot?
No, I feel like that is only doing half the job. Without the post production work, many images are not as good as they could be. After the shoot there are still many hours of work to complete the job and deliver a finished project. During the printing process, I am still making adjustments so the client will have the best possible images.
How many images do you make?
I really do not try to shoot for numbers. I have cameras that shoot 10 frames a second. It is very easy to have a hundreds of images. That does not mean there are hundreds of good images. I shoot what I see as a nice moment and a good photograph. Most of the weddings I photograph will have around 2000 images at the end. When I photograph a film wedding I will bring 60 rolls of film with me. Very rarely will I shoot that much but I have it if I need it. I will shoot 20- 30 rolls of film during the average wedding.
When should I book my wedding?
As soon as you know the date I recommend contacting me so I can reserve the date. I schedule the first couple that make a commitment with me, and put down the required 30% deposit. That will guarantee that the date will be yours.
